GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, September 24, 2013

General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. All residents of Greater Winston-Salem are invited to join us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

Speaker: Kathleen Faith Gregory Hutton, Director of Education, Reynolda House Museum of American Art

Reynolda House, built in 1917 as the home of tobacco magnate RJ Reynolds and his family, houses one of the best collections of American Art in the country. Ms. Hutton has been with Reynolda House since 1990 and is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the museum’s interpretive programs. She coordinates K-12 school tours, motor coach tours, and various adult tours, and works with teacher workshops, children’s programs, and community outreach. She conducts training session for docents who can serve in various volunteer positions at Reynolda House. Most recently, she has been helping to develop and launch an Electronic Catalog which will be an outstanding resource and guide to the treasures in the House.

Ms. Hutton's educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and Studio Art from the University of Virginia and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Printmaking from James Madison University. She also studied at the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington, DC. 

      

Ms. Hutton will discuss the many educational and community programs available through Reynolda House.

BOOK CLUB – Monday, September 9. The book group will meet at 10 a.m.to discuss Dennis Lehane’s Live by Night, a novel set in Boston in 1926, the era of Prohibition, gangsters and corrupt cops.

BOARD MEETING – Tuesday, September 10. The Board will meet at 10 a.m. 

BRIDGE – Thursday, September 12. Bridge will begin at 12:30 p.m. 

SOCIAL – Saturday, September 14. The social will begin at 6 p.m.

LUNCH GROUP – Thursday, September 19. Lunch group will meet at 11:30 a.m. 

GALLERY GROUP – Friday, September 20. Gallery group will meet at 11 a.m. 

DAY CARDS – Thursday, September 26. Day cards will be at 1 p.m.

The August general meeting is our Annual Luncheon Meeting and Installation of New Officers. It will be held at 11:30 a.m. at a local venue (not the Trinity Church).

BOOK CLUB – Monday, August 5.  The book group will meet at 10 a.m. to discuss Kathleen Grissom’s The Kitchen House, a story of an indentured white servant girl who arrives at a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house.  

NIGHT CARDS – Wednesday, August 7.  Night cards will be held at 7 p.m. 

BRIDGE – Thursday, August 8.  Bridge group will meet at 12:30 p.m.  

WINE GROUP – Saturday, August 10.  The Wine Group will meet at 7:30 p.m. The theme will be “Critters.”  Please bring a bottle of wine with a label that either has the name or a picture of an animal, bird or fish.  Also bring an appetizer to share (critters not required!)  

BOARD MEETING – Tuesday, August 13.  All outgoing and incoming board officers and chairs are encouraged to attend the joint meeting at 11 a.m.  There will be a potluck brunch prior to the business meeting. 

LUNCH GROUP – Thursday, August 15.  Lunch Group will meet at 11:30 a.m. 

GALLERY GROUP – No meeting in August.  

DAY CARDS – Thursday, August 22.  Day cards will be at 1 p.m.

Speaker:  Kevin Mundy, Sales & Marketing Manager, Sawtooth School for Visual Art

Originally from Aiken, SC, Kevin Mundy earned a BA degree in Government and Spanish from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, and an International MBA from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.  He moved north to Winston-Salem in 1987 to start an eighteen-year career with Sara Lee Branded Apparel/Hanesbrands, where he held a variety of positions including Marketing Manager, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Community Relations, and Event Director for The Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament.  Since leaving Hanesbrands in 2005, he has served as the interim VP of Marketing and Communications for AIDS Care Service and account manager for Express Graphics. He joined the Sawtooth School for Visual Art in June 2012 to head up their sales & marketing programs.  He will be sharing the history of the Sawtooth Center and providing information on all of the fine art and craft classes that are taught there.
