GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, July 23, 2013

General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. All residents of Greater Winston-Salem are invited to join us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

Speaker:  Kevin Mundy, Sales & Marketing Manager, Sawtooth School for Visual Art

Originally from Aiken, SC, Kevin Mundy earned a BA degree in Government and Spanish from Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC, and an International MBA from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.  He moved north to Winston-Salem in 1987 to start an eighteen-year career with Sara Lee Branded Apparel/Hanesbrands, where he held a variety of positions including Marketing Manager, Manager of Corporate Affairs and Community Relations, and Event Director for The Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament.  Since leaving Hanesbrands in 2005, he has served as the interim VP of Marketing and Communications for AIDS Care Service and account manager for Express Graphics. He joined the Sawtooth School for Visual Art in June 2012 to head up their sales & marketing programs.  He will be sharing the history of the Sawtooth Center and providing information on all of the fine art and craft classes that are taught there.

BOOK CLUB – Monday, July 8.  We are meeting on the second Monday, because of the July 4^th holiday. The book group will meet at 10 a.m. to discuss Shlipi Somaya Gowda’s Secret Daughter.

BOARD MEETING – Tuesday, July 9. The Board will meet at 10 a.m.

NIGHT CARDS – Wednesday, July 10.  Date changed due to July 4 holiday week. Night cards will be held at 7 p.m.

BRIDGE – Thursday, July 11.  Bridge group will meet at 12:30 p.m.

DINNER OUT GROUP – Saturday, July 13. The Dinner Out Group will meet at 6:30 p.m.

LUNCH GROUP – Thursday, July 18.  Lunch Group will meet at 11:30 a.m.

GALLERY GROUP – Friday, July 19.  Meeting time for the Gallery Group will be announced.

DAY CARDS – Thursday, July 25.  Day cards will be at 1 p.m.

Speaker:  Sergeant Charles Sayers, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office 

Sergeant Sayers will return to provide more information to help us prevent identity theft and scams aimed at seniors – all with a good sense of humor.  Sergeant Sayers has been with the Sheriff's Office for 30 years and feels fortunate that he has been assigned to every aspect of the Department. This has given him a broad background for his present position as the head of the Crime Prevention Unit which allows him to make presentations that keep the public informed on personal safety.

Speaker:  R. Michael Wells, Sr., Attorney-at-Law, Wells Jenkins Attorneys, Winston-Salem 

Mr. Wells is a prominent attorney in Winston-Salem as well as North Carolina, who received his education at University of Virginia and Wake Forest. He has presented lectures on a wide spectrum of topics dealing with State and local laws. Mr. Wells will be speaking to us about Estate Administration, Medicaid Planning and Elder Law.  Not only has he been practicing law for nearly 40 years, but he is very active in the community.   One of his favorite service activities is tutoring high-school students who are at risk of dropping out of school.  He and his wife have three children and two grandchildren.
