GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, April 28, 2015

General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. We invite women who are new or established residents of Greater Winston-Salem to visit us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street, W-S 27103 (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10AM on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

Presenter: Nancy M. Hall
                     Founder and President of Second Spring Arts, Inc.
Second Spring Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization honoring creativity in people over 60 years of age, evolved from Nancy Hall’s vision into a vigorous group with a stated mission and defined goals. For more, see http://www.arts60plus.org/.
            Ms. Hall has a background in Sociology, with an undergraduate degree from Meredith College, and a Master’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She has also done graduate work at NCSU and has a Duke University Leadership Certificate in Gerontology.
            She has worked for the Forsyth County Department of Social Services as an Administrative Supervisor for Services to Adults, as Director of a Special Project on Aging, and as Staff Development Supervisor. She has also worked for the UNC School of Social Work as a Field Instructor, as Director of Field Instruction, and as Assistant Professor. At the Children’s Home, she served as a Social Worker, and as an Assistant Director of Child Care Staff, and for the Division of Social Services, as Regional Trainer and Management Consultant.
           Ms. Hall’s volunteer activities include the Forsyth County Committee on Aging and the Think Tank Committee. She has been past president of the AARP local chapter, a Forsyth Delegate to the Senior Tar Heel Legislature, and past board member and present volunteer for the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston

                   RiverRun International Film Festival

The RiverRun International Film Festival, a regional event based in Winston-Salem, is one of the premier film festivals in the southeastern United States, with the 17th annual RiverRun about to be held – April 16-26, 2015. Founded in 1998, RiverRun was inspired by the French Broad River near Brevard NC where the festival was originally held. Each year since its inception, RiverRun has grown substantially. For the 2014 Festival, more than 16,000 tickets were issued to the 140+ films from 30+ countries that were shown, and the 2014 RiverRun earned distinction as an Academy Awards ® qualifying festival in both the Documentary Short and Animated Short sections.
            The upcoming festival will be Mary Dossinger’s eighth. Prior to joining the team at RiverRun, she received her Master’s in Fine Arts in Contemporary Cinema Cultures from The University of London – King’s College London in 2007. She also earned her Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and minor in film studies at Emory University in 2000. She has had a varied career, starting as a Program Assistant at CNN and Turner Broadcasting and then moving on to Capitol Hill where she worked as an Executive Assistant at an international lobbying firm, the American Council of Life Insurers. She has lived all over the world, thanks to a father who worked for Exxon. She was born in Guildford, England, and lived in Athens, Greece; Houston TX; Anchorage AK; Atlanta GA and Washington DC.

General Meeting Bad Weather Policy: In the event of bad weather, we follow the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School policy: If school is on a two-hour delay, we will meet at the regular time; if school is cancelled, then our meeting is cancelled.
