GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, June 24, 2014

General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. All residents of Greater Winston-Salem are invited to join us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10AM on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

Presenter: Michael Hastings, Food Editor at Winston-Salem Journal

On “Area Restaurants, Markets and Wine Stores”

            Michael Hastings has been the food editor at the Winston-Salem Journal, a daily newspaper in Winston-Salem, since 2000. His 26 years of journalism experience include stints as a copy editor and assistant features editor.

            Each week, Michael writes a weekly column, feature articles, and other stories for the Journal’s Wednesday food section. He also writes wine reviews and other food stories for other sections of the paper, and maintains a blog on the paper’s website. He makes regular media and personal appearances, and is active on Twitter and Facebook. He currently does a weekly radio segment on WSJS 600 AM each Wednesday morning.

            Before entering the newspaper business, Michael made his living as a chef in several Winston-Salem restaurants.

            He has a B.A. in English from Wake Forest University. He is married and has two children, who are both staunch supporters and tough critics of his cooking.

            At our meeting he will provide an overview of restaurants, markets, wine stores, etc., in our area.
