GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, February 24, 2015 -- CANCELLED DUE TO SNOW
General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. We invite women who are new or established residents of Greater Winston-Salem to visit us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street, W-S 27103 (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10AM on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

General Meeting Bad Weather Policy: In the event of bad weather, we follow the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School policy: If school is on a two-hour delay, we will meet at the regular time; if school is cancelled, then our meeting is cancelled.

Presenter: Nancy M. Hall, Founder and President of Second Spring Arts, Inc.

Second Spring Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization honoring creativity in people over 60 years of age, evolved from Nancy Hall’s vision into a vigorous group with a stated mission and defined goals. See http://www.arts60plus.org/.
            Ms. Hall has a background in Sociology, with an undergraduate degree from Meredith College, and a Master’s degree from UNC Chapel Hill School of Social Work. She has also done graduate work at NCSU and has a Duke University Leadership Certificate in Gerontology.
            She has worked for the Forsyth County Department of Social Services as an Administrative Supervisor for Services to Adults, as Director of a Special Project on Aging, and as Staff Development Supervisor. She has also worked for the UNC School of Social Work as a Field Instructor, as Director of Field Instruction, and as Assistant Professor. At the Children’s Home, she served as a Social Worker, and as an Assistant Director of Child Care Staff, and for the Division of Social Services, as Regional Trainer and Management Consultant.
            Ms. Hall’s volunteer activities include the Forsyth County Committee on Aging and the Think Tank Committee. She has been past president of the AARP local chapter, a Forsyth Delegate to the Senior Tar Heel Legislature, and past board member and present volunteer for the Shepherd’s Center of Greater Winston-Salem.

Presenter:       John Whisnant, Executive Director
                        Paul J. Ciener Botanical Garden (PJCBG) in Kernersville

As executive director of PJCBG, John Whisnant oversees general garden operations, programming and horticultural staff, and organizational development.
            John has over 28 years of working knowledge and experience in the areas of manufacturing, finance, supervision and client relationship building. He spent most of his career building and maintaining client relationships in the manufacturing sector with Grass America, Inc. (producer of hinges and door slides), and as the Development Officer at Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.
            Aside from his professional accomplishments, John has deep community roots, serving on various community, civic and church boards or committees. He is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church, has chaired the Outreach committee, Stewardship and Generosity committee, and serves on the Finance team. He also has been active in the campaign advisory boards of many local politicians, employing his marketing and business acumen in that arena.
            He most recently served on the Board for the Women’s Resource Center, the Guilford Battleground Company, the Triad Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and is a Trustee for the SJ Edwards Foundation. Past board service includes Guilford Green Foundation, Bel Canto Company, Greenhill Center for NC Art, and Mental Health Association - Greensboro. Additionally, John is a Lifetime member of the Community Foundation’s Future Fund Initiative, and is a trustee to their Public Act Endowment.
