GENERAL MEETING: TUESDAY, APRIL 23 at 10 A.M.


General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers and discuss club business. All residents of Greater Winston-Salem are invited to join us. General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.

Speaker:         Daniel Ackerman, Associate Curator, Museum of
                        Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), Old Salem

Mr. Ackermann has been with MESDA since 2007.  Previously, he worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.  He earned a B.A. from the College of William and Mary, an M.A. from the University of Virginia, and is pursuing his Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.   MESDA is a museum dedicated to the preservation, scholarship and connoisseurship of southern decorative arts and material culture.  MESDA is the realization of a dream shared by Frank Horton and his mother Theodosia “Theo” Taliaferro, pioneering antique dealers and collectors, who spent their lives raising public awareness and appreciation for domestic objects made in the South.

NIGHT CARDS – Wednesday, April 3.  Night cards will be held at 7 p.m.

BOOK CLUB – Monday, April 8.  (Note that we have changed our meeting to the second Monday in April because of the Easter holiday.)    The book group will meet at 10 a.m.to discuss Helen Simonson’s, Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand. 

BOARD MEETING – Tuesday, April 9.  The Board will meet at 10 a.m. 

BRIDGE – Thursday, April 11.  Bridge group will meet at 12:30 p.m. 

DINNER OUT GROUP – Saturday, April 13.  The Dinner Out Group will meet at 6:30 p.m.

LUNCH GROUP – Thursday, April 18.  Lunch Group will meet at the West End Cafe926 W. 4th Street, Winston-Salem 27101, at 11:30 a.m.  

GALLERY GROUP – Friday, April 19.  The April Gallery Tour will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Sechrest Art Gallery, Hayworth Fine Arts Center, High Point University, High Point, NC 27262. 

DAY CARDS – Thursday, April 25.  Day cards will be at 1 p.m.

CRAFT GROUP.  No meeting in April.

GENERAL MEETING - MARCH 26 at 10 A.M.

Speaker:   Chris Jordan, Director of Programming, New Winston Museum, 723 S. Marshall St., W-S 27101

The New Winston Museum is the community museum for Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, with the mission to preserve the history of the area.  It was officially opened in May 2012 with an exhibit called Every Picture Tells Our Story, a pictorial representation of Winston-Salem history through photography.  The Museum is now presenting the Salon Series which aims to bring a wide-range of community leaders from academics, artists and activists to lead discussions on a variety of topics.  The Museum is open Tuesday to Friday, 2 to 5 p.m.  Web site:  http://www.newwinston.org/site/ .  Mr. Jordan is a native of Charlotte, earned a Masters Degree in Museum Studies from UNC-Greensboro, and has lived in Winston-Salem since 2007.

BOOK CLUB – Monday, March 4.  The book group will meet at 10 a.m. to discuss Jessica Maria Tuccelli’s book, Glow.

CRAFTS GROUP – Wednesday, March 6.  We will meet to paint ceramic green ware that will be fired and given away at Empty Bowls, a major fund raising event for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

NIGHT CARDS – Wednesday, March 6.  Night cards will be held at 7 p.m.

BOARD MEETING – Tuesday, March 12.  The Board will meet at 10 a.m.

BRIDGE – Thursday, March 14.  Bridge group will meet at 12:30 p.m.

GALLERY GROUP – Friday, March 15.  We will be visiting the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA) on the grounds of Old Salem in Winston Salem at 11 a.m.

LUNCH GROUP – Thursday, March 21.  Lunch Group will meet at Bleu3425 Frontis Street, Winston-Salem 27103, at 11:30 a.m.   RSVP REQUIRED.

DAY CARDS – Thursday, March 28.  Day cards will be at 1 p.m.
