General Meetings are held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street (just off Silas Creek Parkway via the Bolton Street exit) at 10 a.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month, except August and December.
Speaker: Daniel Ackerman, Associate Curator, Museum
of
Early
Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), Old Salem
Mr. Ackermann has
been with MESDA since 2007. Previously, he worked at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art in New York City. He earned a B.A. from the College of
William and Mary, an M.A. from the University of Virginia, and is pursuing his
Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. MESDA is a museum dedicated to the
preservation, scholarship and connoisseurship of southern decorative arts and
material culture. MESDA is the
realization of a dream shared by Frank Horton and his mother Theodosia “Theo”
Taliaferro, pioneering antique dealers and collectors, who spent their lives
raising public awareness and appreciation for domestic objects made in the
South.
