General Meetings are a time to welcome visitors, hear guest speakers, and discuss club business. Women who are new or established residents of Greater Winston Salem are invited to join. December Holiday Social:
Our December party for members of Newcomers & Neighbors of Greater Winston Salem will be Friday, December 8, 2017. The festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Millhaven Landing Clubhouse, 3491 Waterwheel Circle, Winston Salem 27103. Members wishing to attend should sign up on the form which the president will pass around at the general meeting November 28, or by email to jan.fish115@hotmail.co.uk. Guests are welcome if we have their name and payment.
The cost to attend the social is $5.00 per person and your payment by December 1 will guarantee your place at the party. You can pay with cash, or check made payable to Newcomers and Neighbors and delivered to the treasurer Kathy Pietroski.
To keep expenses down we ask that you bring a 'potluck' dish —i.e. an appetizer, side, salad, main, or dessert. By indicating your contribution on the sign-up sheet, we hope to have a wide selection of delicious food with something for everyone. There will be tea, coffee, and, soft drinks available, but please feel free to bring your own adult beverage.
There is parking available close to the clubhouse; however, we recommend carpooling since space may be limited. Please do not park on the grass.
Annual Holiday Giving: Again this year at the Holiday Social we will collect $10 gift cards from our members, to contribute to the Salvation Army as gifts for the teenagers in their program. If you would like to provide one or more gift cards, but are unable to attend the Social, cards can be brought to the November general meeting -or- given to President Jean Isaac, or Pam Bloom by December 8. Suggested sources for gift cards are Walmart, Target, Walgreens, and Kohls. We look forward to seeing you December 8, giving us all the opportunity to welcome and get to know new members, mingle, make friends and enjoy the party in the festive atmosphere of the Millhaven Landing Clubhouse.

Candle Tea: December 1-9 (Days & Hours Vary), Admission: $5 adults / $1 children.
Single Brothers' House in historic Old Salem. 600 South Main Street (Salem Square). Volunteers dressed in period costume will be welcoming and guiding people through the Candle Tea. Visitors can share in the Moravian holiday traditions, which include singing carols accompanied by the 1797 Tannenberg organ, enjoying Moravian coffee, and sugar cake (provided by Winkler Bakery in Old Salem,) viewing the putz display (miniature replica) of early Salem, and more. Annual Lovefeast, Wake Forest University, December 3 in Wait Chapel on the WFU campus. Free and open to the public. One of the unique traditions of the Moravian Community observed in this beautiful chapel. A campus tradition since 1965. This year there will be two services, an abbreviated (about one hour) service at 4:30 p.m. and the traditional (about 90 minute) service at 8 p.m. Come early to find a seat at this popular event. Salem Band’s Annual Holiday Concert: Lessons and Carols, December 19 at New Philadelphia
Moravian Church (4440 Country Club Rd, WS 27104) and December 21 at Trinity Moravian Church (220 E Sprague St., WS 27127). Both concerts at 7:30 p.m. Free admission. A mix of sacred and secular music of the season. Pre-concert music by small ensembles. Established in 1771, Salem Band is the oldest, continuous mixed wind ensemble in the nation. Black Nativity: Presented by the North Carolina Black Repertory Company: December 1-10 (Days & Hours Vary) The Arts Council Theatre, 610 Coliseum Dr. NW, Winston Salem, NC 27106, for complete details go to https://ncblackrep.org/cs02-black-nativity. The performance is a soul stirring rendition of the Christmas Story, that fills the theatre with thrilling voices, exciting dance, and glorious music. It is a powerful retelling of an age-old tale. The audience is taken from a traditional black church to an Africanized Jerusalem, with the play telling the story of Mary and Joseph’s Journey up to the finale surrounding the birth of Christ.
